Power plants Engineering

Power plants Engineering is considered as the newest branch in Mechanical Engineering Department in University of Technology since it was established in 2015. It is one of the important branches due to the growing need of the labor market for engineers specialized in the field of power generation plants.

This branch aims to prepare a mechanical engineer specialized in the management, operation and maintenance for power plant since this sector has an increasing importance in Iraq and to keep pace with the great expansion witnessed by the production of electrical energy sector of various types: thermal, gas turbine, diesel and water resources plants, which requires supplement this sector with specialists engineers capable of accommodating with advanced technology.

Department of Mechanical Engineering, since its establishment in 1960, was sustaining the power plants with engineers through graduates of general mechanical branch, but the major expansion in this sector has made it necessary to develop a branch specialized with electrical power generation plants, bearing in mind that the department awards a master degree in specialty of power generation since more than 30 years.

Also, graduates of this branch will work to meet the need of various industrial sectors, especially in the oil and water resources sectors as well as the private sector, and open new horizons in the field of the use of renewable energies.

The development of this section has been done in cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Electricity, where the Department of Planning in the Ministry oversees the curriculum set forth in this section, and there is continual coordination with the ministry for cooperation in the fields of summer training and graduation researches and seeking to provide job opportunities for graduates of this branch.

Automobile Engineering

The Automotive Engineering is a branch in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Technology – IRAQ, which enrolled its first class of students in 1960 and has continuously operated since that time. The branch first established as Automotive Department from the High Industrial Institute in 1967. Then, this institute was changed to Collage of Engineering Technology, which was belong to University of Baghdad. Then, the branch was a part of the Mechanical Engineering Department when University of Technology established in 1975.

The program offers four years’ degree as a minimum qualification. The degree awarded is Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering – Automotive Engineering. The program covers the basic principles of automotive engineering industry along with modern vehicle design requirements in terms of safety, fuel economy and industrial manufacturing. The automotive engineering program is part of the ME curriculum, which, over the years continues to emphasize the Mechanical Engineering core topics of mechanical systems, design, thermal-fluid systems, materials, and manufacturing.
